Lessons from God's Sovereignty from Daniel 4 part 3

Third, and now we’re getting to the heart of the story - God’s sovereign and He wants you to know it.If there’s anything this story teaches us it’s that God is not the kind of king who doesn’t want anybody to know He’s king. He is king and He wants everybody everywhere to acknowledge it.Look, God tells us exactly why this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar, verse 17, “This sentence is by the decree of the angelic watchers, and the decision is a command of the holy ones, in order that the living may know that the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind…” In other words, God’s sovereign and He wants people to know it.I once read a book entitled The Pleasures of God. One of the chapters was called “The Pleasures of God in His Fame.” God wants to make His name famous. He explains, “God delights in having his name known. God loves to have more and more people hallow his name…that is esteem, admire, respect, cherish, honor, and praise His name…God delights in being known for who He really is. He loves a world-wide reputation.”And He is jealous about His reputation. No one will get away with trampling on it. God will tolerate no rivals. That’s important for you to know.If you are an unbeliever people are going to tell you, it doesn’t matter what you believe about God, it’s no big deal, think what you want to think, live the way you want to live. The Bible says that’s absolutely not true. God wants the living to know that He rules over this universe. In fact a major part of God’s plan is that one day everyone will know that He is the one who rules over this universe. That’s exactly what Paul tells in Philippians 2:9-11 where he writes that God highly exalted Christ, “and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.”And listen if you are a believer, this reality that’s illustrated here in Daniel is very important for you to understand. God wants His name known. And if that’s what God desires, so should we.We ought to pray to that end.The person who loves God needs to love what God loves, to be passionate about what God’s passionate about. Daniel 4 tells us God wants people to know that He’s king. Therefore, if we love God, so should we.
