Another Little Update...

It is good to be in Africa.I don't know if you are getting tired of little updates. I hope not, but writing these sorts of things out helps me keep on track with how God is moving us forward.1.) We are continuing to build relationships in Mamelodi. In particular, as I have written before I am becoming friends with a pastor in Mamelodi. With so many needs in so many places, I am trying to focus my attention personally in terms of mercy-ministry in Mamelodi. One exciting development, my friend is setting up a meeting with the principal of one of the schools in Mamelodi and has some ideas about what we can do there personally - such as afterschool tutoring, identifying and providing for children who do not have enough to eat or places to sleep, etc.2.) Marda met with someone from an established orphanage today. Marda is pursuing the potential of caring for babies with AIDS within our home. The social worker she met with was very excited to hear that and said we could have 5-7 babies in our home very quickly after we go through the process. Once Marda has the baby we are going to take the necessary steps to pursue that as well.3.) This orphanage has also developed a way of caring for children within their communities that they would like to help us develop in Mamelodi if we are willing. They are currently caring for about 1000 children in another township this way. Obviously we have to gather a little more information but they are very willing to get behind us and from what I understand of it, to me at least at this point, it seems a very culturally appropriate and wise approach. We're setting up another meeting to talk more with them about the potential of doing that. We need great wisdom to do the best good.4.) We are also receiving a number of opportunities to provide biblical training within existing works. I will be teaching on biblical counseling at a local orphanage several times in the upcoming months. And social worker at the orphanage Marda visitied today is opening a home in Mamelodi for single mothers, and mentioned that they would like potentially for me to come and talk parenting skills, etc because many of these ladies have never seen a biblical family in action.5.) On top of that, we are trying to develop a team of mercy ministers here at the church. This - long term - I think is key. Hopefully, we'll become facilitators ourselves, helping others serve Christ by serving others.6.) As I have mentioned I have the joy of teaching biblical counseling at Grace School of Ministry to about forty to forty five individuals from all throughout Africa who are eager to serve in their own churches.
