7 lessons on God's Sovereignty from Daniel part 2

God has no equal on heaven or on earth. There’s no one strong enough to stop Him from doing what He desires to do. He is sovereign.But that’s not all…Secondly, this passage reminds us God is sovereign even when it looks like He’s not.Nebuchadnezzar was a wicked man. Babylon was a wicked city. And yet here when Daniel writes, these wicked people, this wicked man had completely devastated and wiped out the people of God.And you know for God’s people honestly, it didn’t look good. They had to be confused. “I mean where was God in all of this?” “We pray to God and we lose.” Yet this wicked man, these wicked people they pray to their little idol and they win. Is God really in control?And the book of Daniel, it’s main point is, ‘yeah, He is.’I mean that’s the point of this story. Nebuchadnezzar, this wicked king, is ruling because God has allowed him to rule. That’s it. End of story.“…the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind, and bestows it on whom He wishes, and sets over it the lowliest of men.”What God is doing here is giving us a backstage look. Most of the time we don’t get to peak behind the scenes. All we see is what we see. And it’s difficult for us to appreciate God’s sovereignty because we don’t see God doing much of anything. We see ourselves doing something. We see other people doing things. But God’s invisible to us, so we don’t see His part. But just because we don’t see what God is doing; here’s the point of Daniel, doesn’t mean God isn’t doing anything.So what we’ve got to do is come back to the Word. God’s revealed something about Himself. And now we look at life and the circumstances of life and what is happening to us through this lens. We remember what is going on backstage. We may not see it, but we know it’s true.He proved it here with this story of King Nebuchadnezzar. God’s sovereign even when it looks like He’s not.
