Through the Bible: Day #3

Let’s try to read as much of the Bible we can together this year. I know it is not always easy. I want to help. I am going to provide you with some questions most Mondays to Fridays that will help you get a little something out of what you are reading. Sometimes there will be more questions, sometimes less. So, get a notebook, a pen, your Bible, and if you would like some help, take some time to answer the questions, and you may be surprised by all God teaches you this year. Genesis 3In Genesis 1 and 2, God’s created a very good world for man to enjoy. Obviously, the world is a lot different now. Genesis 3 shows us why. 

1. What does the writer say about the serpent? What is the significance?
2. Why does the Bible mention creatures of hte field when talking about the serpent?
3. What question does the serpent ask the woman initially? What do you think he is trying to get her to think by asking the question that way?
4. What does the woman add to God’s command?
5. After the woman answers, how does the serpent respond? What does he want her to doubt about God?
6. How do we know the serpent is not just talking to the woman?
7. We were supposed to rule over the animals, but here, the animals rule over us. The man and woman listen to the serpent, and what happens?
8. God searches them out. Think about that. They sinned and God comes for them. How should they have responded when God spoke to them? How did they respond instead? 
9. What happens to their relationship with the earth, with each other, and with God as a result of their sin? 
10. Why do you think Satan chooses to use a snake?
11. Is Satan lying when he says that man will be like God?
12. What promise does God make in verse 15?
13. Can you think of any way that man calling his wife Eve in verse 20 might have been an expression of faith in God’s mercy?
14. Why do you think God might not have wanted man to live forever in his condition at the end of verse 22? Is there anyway this might have been a mercy? 

Psalm 3

1. God’s demonstrated his sovereignty in chapter 2. And yet, how does Psalm 3 begin? What problem is David facing? What are people saying about him? Does that tell you anything about the nature of life in this world right now?
2. David is under attack. What does he do? 
3. Even though he is being attacked, what does David say he believes about God? How does that strengthen him according to verse 5 and 6? 
4. What does David teach us about salvation in verse 8? 

Matthew 3

1. What was John the Baptist’s message?
2. What does Matthew say about John the Baptist? Who was he? 
3. What does the quote he uses say about Jesus?
4. What did John say to the Pharisees? What does he teach you about repentance and a relationship with God?
5. What warning does he give the Pharisees if they won’t repent like that?
6. Jesus was baptized by John. Why was Jesus baptized if he wasn’t a sinner?What reason does he give?
7. What happened when Jesus was baptized? What does God say about Jesus?

Now to sum up.

1. How might Satan use the same strategy on you today that he used on Adam and Eve?
2. Are there any ways you are tempted right now to believe that God’s commands are not for your good? What can you do to fight that temptation?
3. What do you learn about humans from Genesis 3?
4. Should you be surprised when righteousness comes under attack according to Psalm 3? What can you learn from David about how to respond when it does come under attack? 
5. Stop and think about what you have learned about Jesus from Matthew so far. What does the angel in chapter 1 say about him? What does Herod’s attack say he realized about him? What do all the Old Testament prophecies quoted say about him? And, what does God say about Him? Now, what’s your attitude toward Him?
