Through the Bible: Day #12

Let’s try to read as much of the Bible we can together this year.I know it is not always easy.I want to help.I am going to provide you with some questions most Mondays to Fridays that will help you get a little something out of what you are reading. Sometimes there will be more questions, sometimes less. So, get a notebook, a pen, your Bible, and if you would like some help, take some time to answer the questions, and you may be surprised by all God teaches you.Genesis 12 

1. What important fact did we learn about Sarah in Genesis 11:30?
2. So here are all these people having all these children, and here is this woman who is unable to have children. That's part of the context for Genesis 12. Yet what does God tell Abram to do in verse 1 and what encouragement does God give him to do it?
3. What had the people wanted to do regarding their name in the previous chapter? What does God say that He will do for Abram? What does that tell you about how salvation is supposed to work?
4. What word is repeated over and over in verses 1-4? After this terrible scene of rebellion in Genesis 11, what is surprising about seeing this word here?
5. What specific three promises does God make Abram?
6. What connection does God make between Abram and this promise and the nations in verse 4?
7. How does this promise better help us understand God's agenda and the story so far?
8. How old is Abram when God tells him to go?
9. What places does Abraham visit in verse 6,8 and 9. Hold on to those places in your memory, because we will see them and understand the significance later.
10. What does Abram do as he travels that demonstrates he has faith?
11. After this great promise, what surprising thing does Abraham do in verses 10 through 16. What does that tell you about Abraham and his faith?
12. What does God do in verse 17 and what does that tell you about God's commitment to His promises?

Psalm 12

1. What has happened to the godly one in verse 1?
2. What is the evidence he brings up that everyone has become wicked in verse 2?
3. What is the righteous man's attitude towards lying and flattering and boasting in verse 3?
4. What do these people think about the way they speak and what does that tell you about their heart in verse 4?
5. Why does God act in verse 5 and what does that tell you about God?
6. What does the author say about the word of God and what do you think that means?
7. What hope does the Psalmist give us in this wicked world?

Matthew 12

1. In verse 28 and 29 of chapter 11, what does Jesus tell us about himself? How are the Pharisees very different in verses 1 and 2 of chapter 12?
2. What does Jesus say they were failing to recognize about him in verse 6 and 8?
3. What were they failing to understand about the Bible in verse 7? What do you think this statement means about the kind of worship God is looking for?
4. The Pharisees hated Jesus' authority. People want to be religious and be in charge of their religion. But that's not how true religion works. To really know God, you have to acknowledge the absolute authority of Jesus. Have you?
5. Matthew quotes Isaiah. What does Isaiah say about Jesus in verses 18-21?
6. What were the Pharisees saying about Jesus? Why does Jesus say that was such a serious problem in verses 31 and 32?
7. What did their speech about Jesus say about their hearts?
8. What does Jesus say will justify you in verses 36 and 37? What do you think he means?
9. What's going to happen to these people because they rejected Jesus? What is the warning Jesus gives?
10. Who is Jesus' true family according to this chapter?
