1 Peter 1:3-5 Outline

Backwards, Forwards, Inwards

When you listen to many who are suffering you find them talking as if they had absolutely nothing to look forward to.  As a result, they have a hard time worshiping.  They speak as if God had put them in a situation where they had no hope of anything good coming out of it at all.

Peter’s attitude is the exact opposite.

He is full of worship.

And what’s more he thinks you should be as well.  One reason being, his unshakeable confidence in God’s commitment to his future good.   In verses 3-5, Peter helps us understand why we as believers can have an unshakeable confidence about our future no matter how bad things may seem in the present.

1.            Looking backwards proves God is committed to our future good.

The first reason has to do with what happened when we first turned to             Christ.

            v. 3

2.            Looking forward proves God is committed to our future good.

The second reason has to do with what is going to happen when we go to             Christ.

            v. 4

3.            Looking inward proves God is committed to our future good.

The third reason has to do with what is happening as we follow Christ.

            v. 5
