On Preaching to Yourself

“In your meditations…preach the truth earnestly to your heart…plead with your soul until you feel the fire begin to burn…Dispute it out with your conscience….Imitate the most powerful preacher you ever heard.  It is a great part of the Christian’s skill and duty to be a good preacher to himself…Two or three sermons a week from others is a fair proportion, but two or three sermons a day from yourself is ordinarily too little.”
