Reading with our eyes on Jesus

"...to profit much in the holy Scripture we must always resort to our Lord Jesus Christ and cast our eyes upon him, without turning away from him at any time..." John CalvinIt's possible to work very hard at studying the Scripture, to turn over page after page, for year after year and not benefit from your studies anymore than if you had never read one single line. And why? Because you are not reading it with the right goal in mind. It's almost unbelievable but we can even use the Scriptures in a selfish manner - studying for the promotion of self instead of the worship of Christ.
