Let nothing dazzle your eyes besides Him!

John Calvin"...even among us also you will see some so desirous of getting renown among men that Jesus Christ is nothing to them. So much the more therefore do we need to pay full attention to this lesson of St. Paul's that our growing must be in the Lord Jesus Christ, in accordance with this saying of John the Baptist's, I must decrease and he must increase.Let us follow his example: the excellency which is in the church, should retain its measure, nevertheless all leads to Jesus Christ. For though the stars have their brightness, yet the sun outshines them, and everyone knows that it is by the Sun that we are actually enlightened. And therefore let our Lord Jesus Christ who is the Sun of Righteousness be so regarded that nothing may hinder the sight of him or dazzle our eyes that we should not look at him, and let our faith have reference only to him. That then is the reason that St. Paul adds expressly that Jesus Christ must be our Head, and that we must grow in him and resort to him and set our whole study upon him."
