The Love of God

Paul writes in Titus 3:4, “But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared…”Jesus Christ is such an amazing revelation of the kindness and love of God that Paul just says He is the kindness and love of God. When we look at our Savior Jesus Christ we are seeing the love of God in action. How does Jesus Christ reveal the love and kindness of God?1. The greatness of the love the Father has for the Son demonstrates the magnitude of God’s love for us. “By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son…” (1 John 4:9 ) We were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of the Lamb, God’s only begotten Son. God the Father loves God the Son with an everlasting love – and yet He sent Him to die for us.2. The reason Christ came demonstrates the magnitude of God’s love for us. “For God so loved the world…that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) Jesus Christ came that we might have life, eternal life!3. Our own unworthiness of salvation demonstrates the magnitude of God’s love for us. “In this is love, not that we loved God but that He loved us…” 1 John 4:10 “…the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.” Romans 5:8 God did not send His Son because we loved Him so much, but He sent His Son because He loved us so much even while we hated Him.4. The sufferings Christ experienced while on earth demonstrate the magnitude of God’s love for us. “Christ also suffered for you leaving you an example to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth, and while being reviled, He did not revile in return, while suffering He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness, for by His wounds you were healed.” 1 Peter 2:21-23 Christ, God the Son, did not come to earth and live an easy, comfortable life; but instead endured all sorts of suffering – and why? Because of God’s love for us.5. The way Christ ministered to people demonstrates the magnitude of God’s love for us. All throughout the gospels we read that “Christ was moved with compassion…” “The Lord of the world became a servant in the world. He whose right it was to rule, took obedience as his life characteristic.” (Dr. Warfield.)6. The fact that Christ came as Savior not as Judge demonstrates the magnitude of God’s love for us. “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world but that the world should be saved through Him.” John 3:177. The incarnation demonstrates the magnitude of God’s love for us. God the Son – who has to stoop down to look at the heavens and the earth, took on human nature. “Christ Jesus, who although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant and being made in the likeness of men.” Phil.2:78. The death of Christ demonstrates the magnitude of God’s love for us. “We know love by this that He laid down His life for us…” 1 John 3:16 Christ died for us. Those final two words should cause your heart to cry out in wonder and praise to God. The prefect spotless Son of God died for miserable wretched sinners. Amazing love!God sent His Son to save us, not because He had to, not because He needed us, not because we were worth it, not because we deserved it, not because we were seekingHim, but because He loved us!
