Through the Bible: Day 75, Exodus

It is vital that we spend time in God’s Word.

But it’s not always easy.

We read a chapter and we don’t know what to get out of it or even how to start to understand it.

I thought I could try to help you get a little something out of what you are reading by providing you with some questions to ask as you look at the text.  Good questions are a good start to understanding. Sometimes there will be more questions, sometimes less.

You can do this!

So, get a notebook, a pen, your Bible, and if you would like some help, take some time to answer the questions, and you may be surprised by all God teaches you.

Exodus 25

1. Where is Moses as this chapter begins?
2. What basically happened in the last chapter?
3. So God has rescued Israel, explained the reason He rescued them, and entered into a covenant with them, and now He is instructing Moses. What does he tell Moses to do?
4. What kind of contribution does he want?
5. How is this different than the way Pharaoh received things from his subjects?
6. Look at the list of things God said he wanted them to give. How would you describe these things generally?
7. Where did they get all this from? Think about this. Who gave them these things?
8. What are they collecting these things to make in verse 8?
9. What does God want to do?
10. This is huge. When was the last time God dwelt with a people?
11. Where does Moses get the design for this tabernacle? What does that tell us as we look at the tabernacle?
12. Where does God start when He starts telling Moses about how to build the tabernacle in verses 10-16?
13. This ark will become very important in the Old Testament. See if you can figure out how big it is.
14. What is Moses supposed to put into the ark?
15. What does God say down in verse 22 he is going to do at the Ark?
16. So here is this place God is going to reveal Himself in a special way to teach Moses about how to lead the people. What in verse 17 needs to go on top of the ark? We'll see what happens here more as we look at Leviticus. But for now, let's just understand that to meet with God in a sinful world as sinful people, there needs to be mercy, or more specifically atonement.
17. What is he to put on the ends of the mercy seat? Where do we see these before in Genesis? What are they guarding? Here it is as if they are guarding what? What is in the ark?
18. Next, in verses 23-30 Moses is to make what? What is going to go on this? What do you think a table with this on it that's before God represents? Think back to what happened in the previous chapter in verse 11? What is the significance of having a meal with God?
19. In verses 31-40, God tells Moses he is to make what?
20. Look at the design of this a little more carefully, what does this lampstand look like? What do you think is the possible significance of a lampstand that looks like this in the middle of the tabernacle? What does the tabernacle remind you of?
21. What is the purpose of Israel and how does this tabernacle help them accomplish that purpose?
