Through the Bible: Day 81, Exodus

It is vital that we spend time in God’s Word.

But it’s not always easy.

We read a chapter and we don’t know what to get out of it or even how to start to understand it.

I thought I could try to help you get a little something out of what you are reading by providing you with some questions to ask as you look at the text.  Good questions are a good start to understanding. Sometimes there will be more questions, sometimes less.

You can do this!

So, get a notebook, a pen, your Bible, and if you would like some help, take some time to answer the questions, and you may be surprised by all God teaches you.

Exodus 31

1. We are learning about priests and the tabernacle and it all feels very unfamiliar to us, but how does this all connect to God's great plan and why is it important?
2. God had given Moses many instructions about things to build. What does he do in verse 1ff to help him?
3. What has God done for these men that would enable them to build these things? (It's interesting when you turn to Proverbs, when it describes God's building of the world, it talks about him using wisdom as a craftsman. Here as he builds his tabernacle he uses these men in a similar way.)
4. God has called Moses to the huge task of building the tabernacle, but he also supplies Moses with the resources to be able to do it. How might that be an encouragement?
5. The tabernacle was sort of a picture of the Garden of Eden, God's agenda to reverse the curse, which is why it is no surprise after talking about building it, God talks about what in verse 12? What is the connection?
6. What is the above all in verse 13? (Interestingly, this is the 7th time from Genesis 2 that God has stressed the importance of the Sabbath!)
7. What is the purpose of the Sabbath for the Israelites in verse 13 and 14?
8. What does God say is the consequence for not observing the Sabbath?
9. How does the Sabbath function in verse 13 and 17? (Note the word, sign!) What is a sign and what is the Sabbath a sign of?
10. How does the Sabbath connect back to God's unique purpose for Israel?
