Through the Bible: Day 80, Exodus

It is vital that we spend time in God’s Word.

But it’s not always easy.

We read a chapter and we don’t know what to get out of it or even how to start to understand it.

I thought I could try to help you get a little something out of what you are reading by providing you with some questions to ask as you look at the text.  Good questions are a good start to understanding. Sometimes there will be more questions, sometimes less.

You can do this!

So, get a notebook, a pen, your Bible, and if you would like some help, take some time to answer the questions, and you may be surprised by all God teaches you.

Exodus 30

1. In the previous chapter, we have learned a little about priests. In this chapter, we begin seeing some of the different things the priests are supposed to do.
2. First, God wants Moses to make an altar for what at the beginning of this chapter?
3. What is incense?
4. Where is it supposed to be placed?
5. What is Aaron supposed to do every morning with this incense? And how often is he supposed to do it?
6. What is God going to do a the ark of the testimony?
7. So right before the place the high priest goes to meet with God, there's a sweet smelling incense continually burning. What do you think this might indicate?
8. What is Aaron supposed to do on this altar once a year? WHen was he supposed to do that?
9. In verses 12-16, God talks to Moses about how to take an census. Why do you think most nations would take a census? What were the people supposed to do when they take a census and why?
10. It's interesting. Why would there have been the danger of a plague when taking a census? What do you think?
11. What was this money for according to verse 16?
12. What were priests supposed to do according to verses 18-20 before entering the tent of meeting. What do you think was the purpose of this? What would this have reminded the priest of as he went about his duties?
13. What was Moses to make in verses 23 through 31 and what was he to do with it? What does Moses say they must not do with this oil in verse 32 and 33? What do you think all this work setting the priests apart like this was meant to teach?
14. If you think of all this like a language, it's meant to communicate something about God and who God is to us. What do you learn about God from this chapter?
15. Finally, God explains the recipe for the incense in verses 34-38. Were they allowed to use this incense anywhere else? What would happen if they did? What do you think this was meant to indicate about their relationship with God?
